If you are a lover of good coffee, or you just can’t handle the Chinese ice-coffee with sweet milk and a straw, look no further. Here are four quality options Changchun has to offer.

1) The Tongren Bookstore Café同仁书店咖啡馆
Tucked in the back of the Tongren Bookstore, is a small, dimly lit but cozy café with great coffee and free WIFI. There are two kinds of people who frequent this well situated café: students and foreign English teachers. If you enjoy a cappuccino, americano, or espresso then this is the place to go. They also offer cookies, pastries and simple pasta dishes. Overall it’s a good place to meet people and study, so bear in mind Chinese students there are usually friendly and chatty.

2) The Cloud Café
The free WIFI, the great banana split or the chocolate brownies are reasons enough to hang out here. The super friendly staff make the prices more bearable, but make no mistake, you will pay Western prices here. You can get a fresh juice, pretty good coffee and the usual selection of snacks offered in most Chinese cafes.

3) Chez Maman
A French Café in Changchun is the equivalent of an oasis in a desert for coffee drinkers. The freshly baked bread, terrific coffee, incredibly helpful service and reasonable prices, make this café the best in Changchun. If this is not enough to tempt you, they have bagels, chocolate croissants, tiramisu, doughnuts and cheesecake that is simply divine. But why no WIFI?

4) Die Backstube Bar/Café
Situated at the southern end of Caizhi Jie in Jinkai, is the excellent German-style bar/café Die Backstube. The delicatessen is well stocked with German sausages and salamis with wonderful white, wholegrain, or brown breadsticks. The strong tasty coffee and German style food is excellent, but don’t be afraid to switch to a Weissbier (Wheat Beer) when you see the amazing beer selection and fair pricing. If you want a change of pace, the German Beer Hall has an even bigger selection of German beers and it is right next door to Die Backstube.
