Bird's Nest Becomes a Ski Resort for Winter Season

Originally the home of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games events and spectacular opening ceremony, the iconic Bird’s Nest National Stadium has been transformed into a winter wonderland featuring a ski slope for snowboarders and skiers. The Happy Ice and Snow Season gala at the Bird’s Nest opened officially on Dec. 28th, after a trial run that began Dec. 19th. The festival will last until Feb. 20th and visitors will be able to enjoy skiing on the newly-constructed 10-meter high ski slope. The weekday price is 120 RMB and the last entrance is at 17:00 (the course itself stays open until 18:30).

Ten meter high ski slope
The professional skiing area constructed in the Bird’s Nest began to welcome guests as soon as the construction of the 10-meter-high ski slope was completed. The ski slope is about 100 meters long with a ten degree angle. A “magic blanket” is set on the east side to take skiers up the slope. The organizers have imported 500 snowboards, snowshoes and skis as well as 300 sets of snowsuits and gloves. Snowboard, snowshoes and ski gear can all be rented – 80 RMB for the first two hours and 40 RMB for every additional hour.

New Year’s celebrations
The Bird’s Nest will host a New Year’s party from 19:30-21:30 on Dec. 31st. Popular stars and bands will be performing at the party and making New Year’s wishes with the audiences.

Ticket sales hours have been adjusted and you can now purchase tickets and enter the ski slope between 09:00 and 17:00. During New Year’s and Spring Festival, closing of the ticket booth will be pushed back to 18:00. Opening times are subject to changes in weather.
